Airlines, cruise ships and even bus tours may have weight limitations and luggage type requirements. Please do ask the customer service rep in advance or search online to find out the exact requirements. A word of warning here…airlines WILL charge you for overweight and oversized luggage, so it pays to do your homework. You also may need to check in your oversized luggage at an alternative location.
It is important to remember that you may be flying domestic as well as international flights and that they all have different requirements. Some international flights allow for two bags each for free up to 50 lbs. and 60” +/- total inches around, while domestic flights weight and size limits are much lighter (about 33 lbs.) and smaller. Again, do your homework, it can be a very expensive mistake.
Also, be sure to check the size, weight and quantity of your carry-ons. We usually take a small backpack and a very small purse on the plane and check our main suitcase. Some airlines are stringent about weight and size of carry-ons as well as carry-on quantity, particularly on a full flight. Our small purses are small enough that they can go into the backpacks if necessary. Please don’t be one of those people asking for help to cram multiple oversized items into the overhead bins.
