When to go: April – June or September – October is a good time to visit as the weather is warm and it is less crowded. June – August is best for beaches. December – mid-April is best for winter sports.
Immigration and Visas: No visa is required for US citizens, however, an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) authorization may be required in 2026. Always verify the latest requirements three months before leaving to make sure nothing has changed.
Accessibility Information: Some of the larger cities have accessible major hotels and sights, however, infrastructure may be lacking. Accessibility outside major cities may be difficult due to historical areas and lack of infrastructure. Call in advance to verify and make specialty arrangements. Language: Bulgarian
Etiquette: Greet people using formal titles, look each other in the eye and shake hands when meeting. Respect for elders and those in authority. Be on time. Thoughtful small gifs are appropriate but not expensive ones. Shake your head for yes and nod for no. Conservative but stylish dress.
